But I don’t want to look like…
So you’ve been thinking you’d like to look a little younger or a little more rested. But you’re afraid. You don’t want to look fake, plastic or frozen, like so many people you see on TV. Or walking down Park Avenue. Or in magazines (yes, those nearly unrecognizable stars-no names please-who appear distorted and inflated). You still want to look like you. And it’s vital that you remain expressive – it’s fundamental to who you are and what you do.
Well, you are not alone. This is one of the most common and strongly expressed concerns I hear in consultations. And there is good news. You can look natural and expressive and like yourself but better. Everyone will notice how great you look. They will have no idea why. You will likely hear a lot of “You look great lately.” “You look rested.” “Did you get a new haircut?” “How come you never age?” and “Have you lost weight?” Those people who don’t remark on it will smile more and treat you better without even knowing why.
This is because the outcome of treatment is highly dependent on the skills of your provider, his or her personal aesthetic, and the quality of his or her communication with you.
My personal preference is a natural look – the best you, whatever your age. I am an actor and singer as well as a physician. I know what we need. Want proof? Take a look at me. I treat myself – and I will be glad to tell you exactly how.
So, how do we go about getting these great results?
An in-depth consultation allows careful evaluation of your history and lifestyle as well as examination of your anatomy and physiology. This is followed by a detailed assessment during which you hold a mirror to be sure we are both seeing the same things and addressing the same concerns. A treatment plan is then developed. Usually, it has several stages and components. They may be all external or they may also include nutrition, supplements, exercise choices and other general health approaches.
The goal is to restore what has been lost with time and, occasionally, to repair damage or defects.
One of the most common concerns is wrinkles.
Some wrinkles are caused by repeated movement. Examples of these include frown lines, also known as 11s, between the eyebrows, lines across the forehead, and crows feet. These are usually treated with botulinum toxin. That doesn’t mean frozen, without expression. Dosing can be chosen just to decrease activity and soften. And location of injections is at least as important. Choosing dosing and location requires a good understanding of anatomy, in general, and its variations in you, specifically.
Other wrinkles result from fat loss and redistribution with age, as well as the effects of gravity. Examples of these include folds from nose to lips and lines from the mouth to the chin. These can be filled in using a variety of materials. The choice of filler and technique used to inject is paramount in producing a natural look. And the injections don’t always go where you might think. For example, if those lines and grooves are caused by loss of cheek volume and resultant sagging, restoring the cheeks may be the first step. “But I don’t want those huge, fake cheeks!“ Never fear. Each syringe is 1/4 – 1/5 of a teaspoon and we start slow, using just what is needed to restore, no more.
What else can we do?
Are your the neck and jowls giving away your age? Do you have crepey skin around the eyes? Lines on your décolletage? We can tighten it up with Fractora, a fractional microneedle radiofrequency treatment, which stimulates your skin to firm and tighten.
Always look tired due to dark circles under the eyes? Hands getting skeletal? Fixed with filler.
Got dark spots from sun? Visible veins? Hair growing where you wish it wouldn’t? Gone with laser.
Acne – even severe cystic acne? Acne scars? We can markedly improve them.
Fine lines, redness and sensitivity, big pores, dull skin, double chin? Yup, we can get rid of all those, too.
So you can be the best possible you.
